Comic Artist Night at the Opera

It’s always a treat to be asked to sit in on a dress rehearsal for an upcoming production at the San Diego Opera. SD Opera’s Ed Wilensky started “Comic Artist Night at the Opera,” where he invites  several local cartoonists to sketch the performers as the production is fine-tuning for opening night. Other cartoonists include  Eric Shanower, Marty Davis, and Little Fish Studios’s Alonso Nunez, who brought two of his young students to join in on the sketching. I always thought opera had more in common with the comics medium than film– but that’s a topic for another time! Meanwhile, enjoy my sketches for SD Opera’s production of Madama Butterfly, which will have performances at the San Diego Civic Theatre April 16, 19, 22, and 24th. More info here.
