Batton was a special guest at the 2014 Comic-Con in San Diego. He was being honored for the 35th anniversary of the creation of Wolff & Byrd, Counselors of the Macabre (it first appeared as a newspaper strip in The Brooklyn Paper in 1979) as well as the 20th anniversary of the creation of Exhibit A Press and the first publication of Wolff & Byrd/Supernatural Law in comic book format. And of course Exhibit A Press was in its usual spot on the Exhibit Hall floor: Booth 1909.
We debuted the new Supernatural Law book, Zombie Wife, including having an in-booth signing by Batman movie producer Michael Uslan, who wrote the foreword to the book. We also debuted Jackie‘s much-anticipated hardcover book Comic Book People: Photographs from the 1970s and 1980s.
The Spotlight on Batton was well-attended, with Batton being interviewed by Rob Salkowitz. He also appeared on two panels: one on digital comics and one on Will Eisner as a teacher. Batton also enjoyed interviewing his longtime pal Michael T. Gilbert, another special guest this year.
And the must-attend event of the show was the Will Eisner Comics Industry Awards ceremony. As the administrator of the awards, Jackie opened the evening with a welcome, and Batton had a moment onstage presenting with Jonathan Ross.
This may have been Exhibit A’s best year ever at Comic-Con—thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello!
